The Silversmith Hotel
10 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, Illinois, 60603, USA, Chicago, Illinois, USAWhy We Like It
A very underrated property that's close to the Mag Mile shops, theatre district, museums and lakefront attractions such as Navy Pier, the hotel is often overshadowed by glitzy brands like the Four Seasons and the Ritz-Carlton. Take away amenities like a pool, variety of dining, and a spa, and the vibe at The Silversmith Hotel is akin to those luxury properties.
Fodor's Expert Review
Don't be fooled by the tiny front entrance under the L stop. The Silversmith's oak-adorned lobby is enormous and houses a sleek, chandelier-decked restaurant and lounge. The guest rooms--with 12-foot ceilings--are also unusually large and decorated with luxe touches like sequin-pattern wallpaper and silvery, tufted-leather headboards. Steps from Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago, this one is ideal for art and theater lovers.

Room
The window seats in each room are a treat, perfect for catching a bird's-eye view of downtown Chicago or cozying up with a cup of tea during inclement weather. The color palette is very Marie Antoinette with lavender, silver and hot-pink hues, and the 12-foot ceilings are a refreshing feature for a hotel room. A writing desk mimics Art Deco design while the tufted headboard is suited for reading or working while in bed.
Tip Some rooms have sofa sleepers, perfect if you want to spread out with your clan.
Bathroom
Creamy-colored wallpaper with a fan design is a fun period detail and the walk-in, glass-door showers were recently installed.
Lobby
A doorman helps guests into the lobby, where the design is so striking you want to set your luggage down and take it all in. A rotunda ceiling above the bar features an ornate chandelier beneath and the dominant platinum-silver hue evokes the Art Deco age.
Gym
Treadmills, ellipticals, exercise mats, free weights and more are stocked in the hotel's fitness center, open 24/7.
Dining
Recently overhauled, Adamas is a combo restaurant and lounge serving breakfast and dinner menus of New American cuisine, plus happy-hour drink and food specials. Huge open-wall booths are like cabanas and perfect if you need to conduct a meeting or are hanging out in a small group. Apps can be fun to order and share with others, like the "bag of fried pickles" or "donut buffs."
You Should Know Lunch is not served in the hotel 's lone restaurant (Adamus) so you'll have to head elsewhere (thankfully, plenty of restaurants are nearby).
Drinking
Hotel guests love the vibe in Adamus' lounge, sometimes preferring it to an outside bar for a post-theater drink.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
Like all other Loop hotels, a car is more of a hassle than aid (and overnight parking is steep). Save your money and travel on foot if time allows (most museums and shops, as well as an array of restaurants and bars, are within a 20-minute walk) and take advantage of public transit. Five L stops are within a 5- to 7-minute walk and buses run up and down Michigan Avenue, a block to the East.
Restaurants
The Gage (3-minute walk) is an elegant restaurant with eclectic offerings (but with prices that won't blow your budget) with a stellar wine list and right across the street from Millennium Park; daily lunch and dinner, plus weekend brunch, are served. Open since 2016, Revival Food Hall (7-minute walk) on nearby South Clark Street is a Latin-themed collection of restaurants that functions as a "food court."
