Stacy Schroder

Stacy Schroder - Owner/Teacher Trainer


E-RYT 500 Yoga Actions

A longtime student of yoga and meditation, Stacy has studied with a variety of teachers. She completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program in 2000. She has completed over 1000 hours of yoga and meditation teacher training. In 2008, she founded Serene Yoga Studio (SYS).

Stacy’s yoga classes, Yoga Actions teacher training program and workshops hold a unique philosophy which allows ANYbody to practice yoga. This approach will help you THRIVE on and off the mat on all levels of being. She had the honour of facilitating mindfulness meditation and yoga classes for Team Canada Women’s volleyball team for four years from 2008 until the team relocated.

Stacy, along with Helen Maupin and Candace Propp, co-designed the Yoga Actions Teacher Training program. In addition they co-authored a regular yoga column in the Winnipeg Free Press from 2015-2019. One of Stacy’s greatest joys is facilitating the Yoga Actions teacher training program at Serene Yoga Studio and she is deeply grateful for the SYS sangha (yoga community). Her aim is to share how yoga can help the individual cultivate a deep felt sense of ease and serenity.



Kat Binding

Kat has been on a journey of healing her body, mind & spirit through many different modalities for the past 25 years. She began her yoga journey in 1996 and she eventually found her way to a more focused and dedicated yoga practice at Serene Yoga Studio in 2013. Kat completed her 200-hr Yoga Actions Teacher Training at Serene Yoga Studio in 2019.

Kat moves through her own personal yoga practice with the understanding that the more space & ease one can create in the physical body, the more space & ease there will be in the nervous system (including the brain), and therefore also in one's overall emotional state. As more comfort & capacity is found in the body, the more peaceful & quiet mind will become.

Kat assists with the 200-hrTeacher Training program and is currently working towards her 500-hr certification.



Candra Hanstead

Candra was attracted to the practice of yoga in 2003 when the first class she attended left her with a sense of inner peace. She completed her training in 2008 and she loves sharing the yoga experience with others.



Roslyn Sutherland

Roslyn Sutherland - Teacher Training Co-Facilitator

Roslyn is a Yoga and Meditation Instructor and Wellness Coach. Her innovative yoga sequences focus on gentle stretching, physical strengthening and breathing techniques. Roslyn is a graduate of Serene Yoga Studio's 200-hr Yoga ActionsTeacher Training program.

For more than 20 years Roslyn has incorporated yoga into her daily routine and she understood early that physical, mental and spiritual strength are fundamental to healing and healthy living. What defines Roslyn as a Yoga and Meditation teacher and Wellness Coach is her holistic approach to health and wellbeing combined with her 20 years of experience and expertise.

Roslyn currently co-facilitates the 200-hr Teacher Training program and is working towards her 500-hr certification.



Valerie Penner

Valerie started her journey into the world of yoga practicing off and on for ten years at different studios around Winnipeg before finding her home at Serene Yoga Studio in 2015. A couple years later, with the encouragement from family and friends, she enrolled in the 200-hr Yoga Actions Teacher Training program at Serene. She’s looking forward to sharing what she’s learned through her own practice and through her continued training at Serene.



Navneet Mahal

Navneet’s yoga journey began in 2004 with her passion towards physical wellness. Navneet completed her 200-hr Yoga Actions Teacher Training program at Serene Yoga Studio in 2021. She has discovered through her studies that yoga is not merely a physical practice. It is a relationship that is built between the body, the mind, the breath and the soul. Navneet believes that acceptance, self love, no-expectations, and living in the present moment are some of the essential aspects of yoga for leading a contented life. She is excited to share her experience with the Serene members.

Navneet is currently working towards her 500-hr certification.



Sara Hamel

Sara Hamel

Sara began her yoga journey at York University where she attended a free Kripalu yoga workshop with a friend. It was love at first cobra. She then moved to the end of the earth, Happy Valley Goose Bay Labrador and taught Yoga there for 13 years.

Sara received her training at the Kripalu School of Yoga in Massachusetts. She then moved to Winnipeg and was offered the opportunity to train as a Yoga for Round Bodies instructor. Being a woman in a larger body herself, Sara was overjoyed to be able to bring Yoga to this like-bodied population.



Melissa Luby

Yoga has been a transformative journey for Melissa that has helped her navigate and adapt to changes in life. In 2016, she attended a yoga class that revealed the healing benefits of the practice. Since then, Melissa has worked to deepen her practice. She completed Serene Yoga Studio's 200-hr Yoga Actions Teacher Training program in 2023.

Melissa is passionate about helping individuals navigate change. She believes yoga provides an opportunity for individuals to transcend perceived limitations, uncover their inner strength and ultimately thrive in all aspects of life. Melissa aims to create a nurturing space for students to explore their own transformational journey on the mat.



Helen Maupin

Helen Maupin - Teacher Trainer


Helen is passionate about transforming fear into love — from her, for her, for all. She expresses her commitment to transformation through writing poetry, self-awareness and yoga books, co-designing organizations into adaptive enterprises and deepening her daily meditation and yoga practices.

Helen maintains her personal yoga practice and her Yoga Actions teacher training programs deeply enrich her transformational journey and provide a much-loved spiritual community.

Lisa Huys

Lisa has been practicing yoga since the age of sixteen. Through yoga she found her self-expression. It has also given her the tools to grow as a woman in her day-to-day life. Having suffered with anxiety/depression, yoga has been her guide to finding herself. It has also helped her develop the skills needed to cope with stress and become stronger as a person.

Lisa decided to become a yoga teacher because she has always found joy in providing a safe space for others. She has taken many workshops and courses within Winnipeg and the United States. Lisa loves the classes offered through Serene Yoga Studio - she feels that they truly resonate with her belief in the importance of being a part of a supportive community. She strives to guide people to become kinder to themselves in every area of their lives and to help them find their own path to inner growth.



Hayley Harris

Hayley has been practicing yoga for over 10 years. Eventually, through her practice, she decided that sharing yoga with the people around her was what she wanted to be doing. She did her 200-hr Yoga Actions Teacher Training through Serene Yoga Studio, graduating in 2021.

Hayley has two children who join in her practice every day, and she loves being able to play and practice at the same time. This attitude definitely carries over into her own classes and practice. She loves laughing and the feeling of light-heartedness. This yoga journey has been life changing for her and she is excited to grow as a teacher and student for the years to come.

Hayley is currently working towards her 500-hr certification.



Bryanna Spina

Bryanna is thrilled to share her passion for yoga with children and families at Serene Yoga Studio. She was introduced to yoga as a young girl by her own mother and in turn, wishes to spread the benefits of yoga to all ages. She believes that yoga establishes a strong foundation for everyone’s life journey.

Trained by Rainbow Kids Yoga in Toronto, she is a Children’s, Family and Community Yoga Instructor, certified through Yoga Alliance USA. Bryanna is one of the co-creators (along with Stacy and Helen) and lead facilitator of Serene Yoga Actions Kids Yoga Teacher Training.

Bryanna is inspired by her 3 beautiful children who love to share their boundless energy, creativity and wonderment of the world around them. Bryanna is currently working towards her 500-hr certification.
