Gorgeous bitone polychrome of creamy melon pink with a lavender overlay and huge creamy lemon watermark. I feel this flower is a breakthrough into a new class of UFs along with ORCHID CONVERGENCE. The intensely orchid-like shape of the cascading spatulate is becoming a breeder's hallmark. Named for Brian Mahieu's dear friend and adopted sister, artist Amy Mack. (Yellow Daylily, Lemon Daylily, Custard Lily)
Family: Hemerocallidaceae
Light: Full sun, sun-part shade
Height: 1'-3'
Spread: 2'
Blooms: Lemon-scented, bright yellow, star-shaped
Foliage: green
Ploidy: Diploid
Soil: Well-drained, loamy
Propagation: Division, seeds
Uses: Borders, beddings, containers
Comments: Hemerocallis flava or Yellow Daylily or Lemon daylily or Custard Lily is an early bloomer. It is an easy to grow perennial. Its bright color really brightens up the landscape and its fragrance is so delightful. To bring out the best colors in the daylily, light colors have to be in full sun (at least 6 hours) while the dark colors have to be in part shade during the hottest part of the day so their colors would not fade.

Special thanks to my husband, Mike, for use of his conversion of Starman's Quest. Both daylilies have been catalysts to my hybridizing. IMPERIAL QUEST, a light reverse bi-tone shows a fine white edge, which comes from Imperial Wizard. The eye zone displays 3 colors of red, with one band which reaches into the green throat. Up until now most appliquéd eyes have been relatively small flowers in the 3.5” – 5” size range. Tetra TERRY LYNINGER has introduced a “paradigm shift” into a whole new much larger class of appliquéd daylilies. NEW PARADIGM is the first of this new class. NEW PARADIGM is a very large pale yellow with a burgundy appliquéd eye and green throat. The flower has wide short blunt sepals. The substance is very heavy. A fabulous parent not only for appliquéd throats where it has been our number one parent but also for multicolored edges in both gold and various border colors. NEW PARADIGM is a stunning daylily that opens new avenues of exploration in patterns, appliqués and double edges. Easily fertile both ways. | SF $100 |

Pollen parent: PINK STRIPES (Derrow, 2006) Dip. Hybridizers Notes: "PINK STRIPES stats. Semi-evergreen to dormant, 32" tall, usually 4 way branching with 22-24 buds- but I've seen 5 way branching and 36 buds. The bloom is usually 6.5" but first blooms can be much larger, approaching 8". Increase and vigor are average. The scapes lean, especially when more than one bloom is open, the foliage isn't particularly pretty being a medium yellow-green, the branching could be better and the edges of the blooms will start to dissolve in the afternoon when the temperature and humidity are high. PS is in no way a 'finished' plant - there are a lot of faults to be corrected - but the pattern is simply spectacular and unique and that is what makes it such a special break. There truly is nothing like it that I've seen in the daylily world and the exciting thing is that the effect transfers to the first generation seedlings."

ROSELLA FLIGHT. , 5", 36", DOR, DIP, Extra Early. Rebloom. 3 X 24 or better branching and budcount. A rosella is a type of Australian parrot. To my mind, this incredibly floriferous daylily resembles a flock taking flight. A combination of Kraus' azalea pink NINA REBMEN with Stout's early H. f. rosea introduction JENNIE LOVE, this cultivar was, specifically, developed to have rhizomatous growth like H f Europa, but in a gorgeous rose pink with a green throat and great hybrid vigor and gardenability. This seedling was the best of 89 siblings. The color is a clear rose pink with a deep rose pink band on the petals. Green to lemon chartreuse, dart throat pattern. Radically Fertile both ways. Excellent, weatherproof substance, rhizomatous growth habit for naturalizing meadows, banks, streamside plantings, mixed perennial borders. My use of H f rosea and it's progeny like JENNIE LOVE is due to Rosemary Whitacre's theory that H f rosea furnished the last part of the "spidering genes complex". She seems to have been right -- as subsequent generations from these crosses have shown. | SF $65 |

We are starting to get some new breaks in the appliqué patterns. Kinnebrews were able to accomplish this by introducing their Spacecoast Shiner Line into their Spacecoast Sea Shell Line. Previously, all of their throat patterned lilies were in the cream & purple color range. The plan here was to move into new, exciting color combinations and maintain the appliqué. They bloomed hundreds of seedlings in this effort and, finally, this one flowered. We believe this to be the key to unlock the door. They will bloom hundreds of offspring this next year and they hope to see a very diverse range of color. Yellows w/red and black eyes, oranges w/red and black eyes, all with the patterned throats. Plants are vigorous with strong 28” scapes, carrying up to 20 buds. Easily fertile.
