Thomas E. Turpen, MS, R.Ac., is an advanced practitioner of acupuncture with over 20 years of clinical experience; and was the first registered acupuncturist to practice in Ohio. Having received his Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree, he is among the highest trained acupuncturists in his profession. His particular areas of expertise are in acupuncture physical medicine and orthopedics utilizing very specialized techniques for pain management. He is a member of the American Academy of Pain Management, and is the former vice-president of the Ohio Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  He received his MS from Southwest Acupuncture College in Albuquerque, New Mexico; and he received his Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego. Thomas Turpen received advanced acupuncture training in a WHO (World Health Organization) collaborative program in Beijing, China. There he treated patients in inpatient and outpatient settings focusing primarily on neurological disorders and physical medicine. Prior to coming to Ohio, he was a physician in private practice in Albuquerque where he focused primarily on pain management.  He is board certified in acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is also board certified in clinical hypnotherapy by the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnosis.  He has additionally studied under two well-known masters of acupuncture: the late Dr. Richard Tan and also Shoji Kobayashi Sensei, MD. From both of these masters, he has learned classical acupuncture methods well known for achieving instant results. 
Also a trained in homeopathic medicine, he is a graduate of the British Institute of Homeopathy in Canada, and is certified in Homotoxicology by the International Society for Homotoxicology in Baden-Baden, Germany. Beyond his foundational training he constantly strives to expand his understanding through continuing medical education. He has completed a number of programs in pain management, orthopedics and rheumatology including Harvard Medical School's CME programs in pain medicine and primary care orthopedics. In addition to his practice of acupuncture, He has deeply studied East Asian philosophy for about 20 years, is a Reiki Master, and has trained in kung fu and tai chi for nearly 40 years.
