ok, so WOW.
Uh, yeah, wow.
I am a complete spa snob. I have walked out of spas that were dirty, or had unlicensed people working, anything that gives me a bad vibe and I am outta there...
The spa has been t here for over 10 years. It was clean. It smelled like disinfectant- it smelled clean.
I was greeted, had a seat and was then was lead to a locker room. Changed into a spa wrap and robe. Herbal (wet) steam- 30 minutes was 1st. It was great. Very purifying!
Then I had a salt glow and a mud wrap- it was in a wet room with a vichy shower. Again very clean, very professional staff. During the wrap she checked on me a few times, but I zonked out and was asleep almost right away!
Next was the hydrotub- 30 minutes in a spa that was a little bigger than a bath tub with 300 jets- it was heaven.
Then the massage (which was ok, not the best, but not the worst). The pressure was just right, but all she did was Effluerage (long stokes, no kneading or tappotment). It was more like having someone rub oil on me. The oil she used was GREAT- it had a light rose scent. Finally, I had a facial.
The esthetician left the room so I could get settled in, and I snuck a peek at the products. I have very sensitive skin and fragrances and smells bother me, and a lot of artificial fillers used in cheap products redden my skin.
Most everything smelled very perfumey, chemically, icky. Everything had parabens. The packaging looked cheap. The stuff I smelled smelled cheap. I told the estheticin I had super sensitive skin (which I do) and that I couldn't take anything with articificial scents. She rummaged around and found some BB stuff that would fit the bill. The products she used were good- no icky smells, good texture, and were effective The facial was great, great hands, good touch. She used, HF, gavlanic, and gave me a great scalp massage. Her touch during the extractions was the best I've ever had.
Overall- I would recommend the spa for the "spa" treatments, and the facial would have been better if the products were a little higher quality.
Sorry for the typos.
I am going to arrange a spa day there for some of my girlfriend at the end of January.
I had all of those treatments for $240- which is a BARGIN for spas in San Diego.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcy A.Glendale, CA1152211Sep 25, 2011
So I had been saving a certificate for a 30 minute steam and 60 minute massage until I really needed it and boy, this was a week that I REALLY needed it. Called in and specifically scheduled a 1 pm appointment with Michelle after seeing her great reviews on Yelp.
I showed up right on time and told the front desk I had a massage at 1 - they looked confused and said "Your massage is at 1:30" followed shortly after by "Oh, you had a steam too...I didn't turn the steam room on let me go do that". So I took a seat and waited. The place doesn't have much ambiance and it did not feel like their focus was on the customer as I wasn't talked to or offered a drink, or anything like that like I am used to at day spas.
I was led back to the changing room and put on a robe that was torn at the sleeve....kind of awkward... and went to my steam. The steam was great and relaxing, except it would have been nice if they had some sort of timer so you would know when the 30 minutes was up instead of an employee knocking on the door and trying to talk loudly over the sounds of the steam room.
My therapist led me to my massage room and I realized that she never said her name so I said "So your name is Michelle?" (the therapist I had scheduled with) and it turns out she was not Michelle. After she checked with the front desk it seemed that there had been a mix up and I was not scheduled with the masseuse I specifically requested. Also let me add that earlier this week someone called to double check the services I was having done...so this had all been confirmed many times.
I was asked if I wanted to reschedule the massage portion, which I was not interested in as I really wanted to experience both together and I am also leaving town this week and would not have time to schedule another appointment. The massage was okay - not the best I've had and not the worst- it was definitely hard to relax after the confusion and disappointment of their booking issues. They did offer me a $5 certificate for my troubles, which I found almost funny because I don't think $5 has ever kept me from booking a massage. I gave it back and told them I would not be returning, and I won't be. Pay a little more money and go to a relaxing, professional, organized spa.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heather R.El Cajon, CA111Oct 1, 2011
There was craziness going on around the front desk and wasn't sure what to do with myself. Should I sign in? Should I be filling something out? After a while of sitting the in the chair in the waiting area I was asked who I was waiting for. It didn't really inspire confidence that this trip would go well.
Once back in the room things were extremely better. Just the quiet darkened room with peaceful music was enough to get me relaxed. The massage was great and worked out some knots I've had for a week. I left feeling more relaxed than I've felt in a long time. It was worth paying the little extra going here than some of the other options out there. Overall it was a great experience and I'll be going back for sure.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Synnovea K.San Diego, CA219Nov 25, 2011
As far as spas go, Eroma is middle of the road. It's not shabby but it's not top-notch. It's fairly priced for the services provided and considering how expensive spas can be, I don't mind sacrificing soothing new-age ambiance and zesty cucumber water for an overall less-expensive massage or facial.
I agree with others that the level of professionalism by the staff could use some improvement. They're not ass-kissers but I've never been treated rudely by them either. Still, since most of us expect our asses to be kissed just a teensy bit when going to a spa for pampering an relaxation, it comes as no surprise as to why it might rub us the wrong way when we're not greeted with a fanfare.
Overall, a decent place for the prices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Denise M.San Diego, CA20377Jan 24, 2011
I've only been here once & it was spur of the moment kind of deal. My husband & I love getting facials (I know that sounds so metro of him, but it's essential for good skin!) & this was the only one who had availability at that particular time we wanted.
I must say, this won't be the last! You can't beat a 60minute facial for $55! That was super amazing for me & our wallet! They also offer other things such as massages, hair cuts, mani/pedi, etc. and the prices are pretty reasonable. The people were really nice as well!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jen S.San Diego, CA119Apr 23, 2012
Bought a Groupon for a Honey Salt Body Scrub.
Upon walking into this space I felt I took a time capsule to the 80's. This spa was far from what I expected. When we arrived we waited almost 5 minutes for someone to greet us at the front desk. The atmosphere was not relaxing, nor did it have a a pleasant odor.
Upon entry to the body scrub room the room appeared old. The Body Scrub was ok, the staff was very nice and professional. After the scrub we were allowed access to the sauna. I was given a glass of ice water and realized there was black things floating in the bottom of it.
i would consider it a 2 star spa since the treatment was good. However, they need a major facelift overall.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adrienne G.San Diego, CA423349Sep 14, 2013
Def not gonna go back...walked in for an eyebrow wax... a chick named Venus butchered my eyebrows.. Not only were they uneven (one was shorter than the other) but one was rounded and one was squared).. $10 later - NOT HAPPY
Plus the front desk chick had faded green hair with lots of dark roots showing... If you work at a spa, shouldn't your appearance matter?
Lesson of the day: go where u always go to get your eyebrows done - Kimi Nails on College and University (where I pay $5 or $6 and get a better job done)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rolanda N.Oceanside, CA814Dec 17, 2012
Called in last minute on Sunday (because I am the Queen of Procrastination!) looking to get full arms & legs waxed.... I was actually thinking, yeah right, no way they can get me in BUT to my pleasant surprise, the receptionist (forgot her name!) said, sure can you be here at 4:45? Totally awesome!
I had been here a while back for some other services. The salon is clean, neat and orderly. Jessica came out and took my back to the room. She was friendly & respectful. We chatted, shared a few jokes... it was all good. I have a high tolerance for pain, so most of the time I was texting on my phone or staring off into space. She was very detailed, made sure to look over my arms and legs to make sure she got everything and even offered me some advice on how to keep my legs extra smooth!
I will def be back to see Jessica for my waxing needs! The price here, is also right....don't forget to tip people!! :)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kristina G.Chula Vista, CA3556Nov 2, 2012
I just moved back to the San Diego area, and was looking for a place to get a weekly massage. I got a Groupon for this place, so I decided to try it. One would think that, when a business takes a "paper loss" on a product or service, they are doing it to grow their clientele, show people how well theycan do, and create repeat business.
Usually, a reputable masseuse or day spa will require some sort of health assessment paperwork. There was no paperwork here. I was supposed to have a 60-minute massage with essential oils. What I got was a 45-minute massage with no essential oils (I think she used plain mineral oil). I was NOT impressed, and sadly, this business won't get my weekly business. It was just an "okay" massage; not worth going back for another. The Groupon idea did not work for this business.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
