Local Course
The price to play this course is so cheap you would be stupid not to play it.
like a good single-malt scotch, rough but good
The course is hacked out of the Virginia woods way southeast of DC, south of Dalghren and east of Fredericksburg down on Rte3 maybe 10 miles east of Rte 301. This is actually not a bad thing. It's in a good location for golf, almost no houses near the course and it's still hilly enough for it to have some verticality. But don't expect anything fancy here. The clubhouse is a big shack, the carts are gas, the cart-path is gravel and dirt and the course is in ok condition. It is, however, a good woods-course layout with a whole lot of challenging holes that are just on this side of "too hard" for an intermediate player, with greens that are slow to middling depending on the exact hole and the weather. The first green is deceptively slow not representative of the whole course, but not far off the average either. Nothing short and fast. Nothing wild or crazy, but it's not going to just hand you a 100 either. It's a good course overall and an excellent value at $30 for 18 with a cart, just far enough out into the country to make an interesting drive out of it, and I would definitely look forward to playing this course again. A good find.
great day!
You can't beat the value nor the course. Great shape and great service. I will continue to enjoy the course and staff!
Enjoyable Course
If you're looking a quite, stress free round of golf this is your course. There's nothing fancy about this place. It's very small town friendly. From your basic food and beverages, to the non-existent pro-shop trappings. We were a twosome, and they didn't pair us with anyone, so it was very relaxing. The course has character which made it fun, but not difficult. Fairways and greens were playing very firm which was great in the fairway, but not so great on your approach into the greens. The 9th hole from the red tees is challenging for a beginner or those of us who aren't real long hitters. It takes a minimum distance of at least 156 from the end of the fairway to get over a large environmental area to land on the green; perfect shot required. This is a nice course, and I would definitely recommend it and play it again.
Slow play
Seems of late they are just to busy, shouldn't take 2-3 hrs for 9 holes, ended up leaving before my round was done because of the slow pace. Last two times I have been out there same problem.
Well taken care of
I live in Florida . Colonial Beach is home every visit I play Camorn Hills
Cameron Hills...Good Bang for the Buck...
Cameron Hills is decent out of the way golf course. Most of the holes are pretty straight forward, though a few holes with “blind" greens. Immediately got stuck behind a twosome who seemed to be hitting multiple balls, walking slowly between shots, and never offered us to play through. Additionally, it seems the clientele there have never heard of a ball mark tool, as the greens had many untouched ball marks throughout. The “starter” has not in attendance even though the sign said to check with starter before playing, nor were there any “course marshals” on the course to ensure pace of play. I’d like to go back though and play it again. The drive to get to the course was long, but the price was low...a good value, all in all.
Great day
When we showed up they were cooking fresh Bacon and eggs sandwiches to order. Grab some practice balls and came back picked up sandwiches and hit the course. Never felt in a rush. Great looking course. The staff and members we friendly and courteous.
Excellent value
The pace was good except for a few groups. There was no marshal. The food is limited. The cart is a little old and very slow. There is also foot golf with soccer balls going on at the same time. It was a fun time overall and great value. I recommend.
Great local course
Cameron Hills is a great course located in King George. With the GN deals available, it is a great value.
Cameron Hills is a must play
Had a great time playing golf here. Cameron Hills is tucked away in the country through some old back roads in King George and definitely worth the drive. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in great shape. Greens are a little slow so for those of you that are used to fast greens, you will have to adjust rather quickly. Go out there and have fun...you won't be disappointed.
Nice course
This course is good especially for people that are not great golfers. The course was in good condition but not a ton of hazards so it is challenging but not every shot needs to be perfectly placed.
Better than expected
I had not played this course for at least 15 years but was pleasantly surprised when I returned.
Nice place
This is a ice course. The greens are slow but smooth. The fairways are tight with woods and hills.
The staff is always very friendly!!
No bar.
Great Palce to play!
Course was in great shape, particularly the greens, staff is great
Excellent condition but....
there really needed to be a ranger to speed up one of those slow, discourteous groups that ruins everyone's day.
Nice Course
The greens were in real good shape. I wish more players would repair their ball marks to keep them that way. The pace of play was good for a holiday morning. The course is not long and can be overpowerd from the whites. While not long from the blues, the hills call for layup shots from the tee box for your best lie in the fairway trying to avoid up and downhill lies.
Not in great condition
Staff was very friendly...no complaints there. The tee boxes were awful. The fairways are firm and fast and the greens were better than average.
Decent for the money
This course was in very bad shape. You could barely find a patch of grass in any of the tee boxes, the fairways had tons of dirt and felt like you were hitting from the woods when you were in the middle of the fairway. The greens were in decent shape, but that was about it. You get what you pay for here, but I wouldn't play here again just because the course conditions made it felt like I was playing in the middle of a field rather than on a golf course. Really friendly staff, but doesn't make up for the conditions of the course.
